It’s been about 3 months since MySaline’s report on the ice storm causing the collapse and subsequent closure of Haskell Hardware at 5700 U.S.Highway 67.
At the time, owners Tim and Becky Pruitt said they did not have a plan and needed to assess the events and come to a decision at a later time. They were leasing the property, so the decision to rebuild wasn’t up to them.
Now that they’ve allowed some time to pass since the loss, they’ve deliberated and decided against reopening. However, they did try to make return.
According to their statement on social media, they found land and counted the cost of everything it would take to start over. In the end, the cost was too great.
Their statement drew many comments from customers, saying they would be missed in the community.
You can still visit and shop with the Pruitts, as they also own Avilla Hardware at 12725 Congo Ferndale Rd in the northern part of Alexander. We wish them the best.

Hardware store owners Tim and Becky Pruitt closed up on Friday, January 23, 2026, and let people know they would not open on Saturday, due to the coming weather. Then after two rounds of snow and ice, they announced on Sunday that they wouldn’t open on Monday.
On Sunday morning, they heard from the alarm company that something was tripping a sensor, but the Pruitts didn’t find anything amiss when they came to check on it.
On Tuesday morning the 27th, things got more serious. Tim said the alarm company called them again and said something was still causing the alarm to sound.
The Pruitts came to the store to find a Saline County Sheriff Deputy outside guarding it. The roof had given way. There were broken boards that had fallen from the ceiling, and there was melted precipitation dripping down onto the merchandise. (Gallery below)
As they posted to social media, “Haskell Hardware will be closed indefinitely due to roof failure and for damage assessment.”
Tim said he and Becky are dealing with insurance and weighing their options for what to do next. He said it looks like a total loss. They are leasing the property from John Holland.
MySaline is watching this story and will update with anything new.
