Residents across Saline County will have an opportunity to help fight hunger in two different ways during the annual Stamp Out Hunger Day on Saturday, May 9. You can donate food or you can volunteer at the pantry, or actually you can do both. Read more below.
The Stamp Out Hunger nationwide effort allows residents to donate food by leaving items right at their mailbox for pickup. To participate, gather nutritious, shelf-stable foods, place them in a bag, and set it by your mailbox early that May 9th morning.
Postal carriers will collect the donations along their routes and deliver them to CJCOHN, where the food will help support Saline County residents in need.
In addition to donating, community members can also volunteer their time to assist CJCOHN with sorting and stocking the incoming food. Postal workers will be delivering donations beginning at 11 a.m. on May 9th, and volunteers are needed throughout that time.
Available shifts include 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to around 5 p.m. Helpers are welcome to stay for the entire event. Organizers encourage volunteers to bring friends and join in the effort to serve neighbors across the county.
CJCOHN will also hold its regular first Wednesday USDA food distribution activities earlier that week. On Tuesday, May 5 at 9 a.m., volunteers will unload a delivery truck and pack approximately 200 food boxes. On Wednesday, May 6, preparation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by food distribution starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until supplies run out or 2 p.m., whichever comes first.
Organizers expressed appreciation for the continued support from the community, noting that both donations and volunteer efforts play a critical role in helping ensure families in Saline County have access to needed food resources.
CJCOHN is located at 103 E. Elm Street, Benton, Arkansas. Be aware of the route to enter the side gate at CJCOHN:
Take Market St. to Walnut St. to Main St. to form a line. Distribution begins at 10 a.m. When food runs out, they close the gates.
