Charles “Chas” Nash Dixon
Charles “Chas” Nash Dixon, age 97, passed away on the evening of September 26, 2026, just hours before his 98th birthday. Chas was born in Enid, Oklahoma, to Albert and Mable Dixon on September 27, 1928.
He was preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart Marjorie (Marge) Marie James, his parents, brother Harold Dixon, sister Floy Barkman Livingston, his son Keith, and son-in-law James (Jim) Hynson.
He is survived by his children Kent Dixon (Cherie), Joyce Castle (John), Jeanne Hynson (Jim), Kirk Dixon (Dr Pamela Dean Dixon); his grandchildren, Jeffery Hynson, Dr William Kyle Dixon (Lindsay), Annie Castle (Gaylon Scroggins), Kevin Dixon, Dr Blake Dixon (Meghan), Gregory Dixon (Aisha), and Brian Dixon (Anna Marie), along with several great-grandchildren and members of the extended Dixon family.
At the age of 14, Chas attended boarding school, where he met Marjorie (Marge) Marie James, the woman who would become his wife, lifelong companion and sweetheart. Chas and Marge were married on November 27, 1949, and shared an extraordinary 73 years of marriage until her passing in March 2023.
Chas served 3 years in the United States Navy, then obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Family Counseling at Kansas University in 3 years. He returned to military service for 17 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Major in 1971 at the Little Rock Air Force Base.
During his Air Force career, Chas and his family lived in and traveled to numerous locations throughout the United States, including assignments in Texas, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alaska, Langley Air Force Base (Virginia), and Little Rock Air Force Base (Arkansas). In 1969, Chas survived a year long deployment to navigate planes out of Udon, Thailand into the Vietnam war zone.
Following his military retirement, Chas enjoyed more than five decades of retirement, spending much of that time in Saline County, Arkansas.
In March of this year Chas was presented a Quilt of Honor in a ceremony in Benton, Arkansas. His wife Marge assisted in the designing and making of his quilt before covid started in 2020 but she was not able to complete it due to covid and her declining health. The quilt was completed by her fellow Quilters and they ensured Chas received it.
Chas was known by his family as a quiet and serious man who was also highly intelligent, possessed a sense of humor and was a lifelong reader and learner. Above all, he was devoted to his wife and family.
Through nearly 98 years of life, Chas witnessed extraordinary changes in the world around him, but the most enduring part of his legacy remains the loving family he and Marge built together.
Memorial services will be held at Roller-Alcoa Funeral Home at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 3, 2026.
