Benton resident Evelyn Dixon is celebrating her 100th birthday this August, and the community is invited to drop in for the milestone event. In lieu of traditional presents, the Dixon family is asking for themed donations to benefit the local Civitan Preschool. Read more below.
The drop-in birthday celebration is scheduled for August 15, 2026, from 1 – 3 p.m. at 121 Cox St. in Benton.
According to her daughter-in-law, Janet Dixon, Evelyn and her late husband, Dr. Donald Dixon, were heavily involved in the Civitan Club for many years.
The couple deeply loved the organization’s mission and the people it serves. Their decades of dedication left a lasting mark on the community, with a building at the Civitan Preschool officially named in their honor.
To celebrate a century of life and service, the family is requesting that guests bring a donation to Civitan Services rather than a birthday gift. In a creative nod to Evelyn’s age, organizers are asking for donations in any amount featuring the number “100.”
Suggested contributions include 100 pennies, 100 quarters, 100 one-dollar bills, or a single $100 bill.
All funds collected during the celebration will go directly to the Civitan Preschool. Even as she turns 100, Evelyn remains actively connected to the preschool program and continues her annual tradition of providing snow cones to the children.
