The City of Benton will rename a bridge in honor of a Purple Heart Corporal who grew up here. Read more below about the man and the ceremony.
Corporal Cario Fuller, of Benton Arkansas, served with the 1st Cavalry Division, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry, B Company. At only twenty years old, Fuller was fatally wounded on April 9, 1967, according to the FindAGrave website, and the Wall of Faces Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He was in the Binh Dinh province of South Vietnam, across the world from his hometown.
Fuller is a posthumous recipient of the Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star. He is honored on the Wall of Faces Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. His grave site is located at Woodlawn Cemetery in Benton, Arkansas.
A statement from the City of Benton says, “The renaming of the bridge serves as a permanent reminder of his heroism and deep ties to the Benton community.”
