The historic Saline County Courthouse is temporarily closing its Main Street entrance for extensive exterior restoration work. This will begin the afternoon of Friday, July 17. Read more below.
Visitors will be redirected to alternative entrances on the Market Street side of the building while contractors repair the century-old brick and mortar.
This closure on the gazebo side of the courthouse will allow contractors to safely remove deteriorated mortar surrounding the entrance, clean the existing brick, and install new mortar. Because the exterior restoration project must be completed in several stages, county officials anticipate the main entrance will remain closed for an extended period.
To ensure continued public access to county services during the construction, two entry points will be available on the Market Street side of the building.
- Beginning Friday, July 17, visitors are instructed to use the existing West Entrance (left arch in above photo), accessible via the sliding glass doors.
- Starting Monday, July 20, an additional temporary public entrance will open on the west side (right arch in photo)to accommodate foot traffic.
In a public statement, Saline County officials acknowledged the disruption but emphasized the necessity of the repairs to the historic structure. “We understand this temporary change may be an inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience as we continue preserving one of Saline County’s most recognizable landmarks,” the statement read. “Investing in the restoration of our more than 100-year-old courthouse today will help ensure it continues serving our community for generations to come.”
