Saline County Judge Matt Brumley has issued an immediate, countywide burn ban in response to hazardous and escalating wildfire conditions.
With local emergency resources facing challenging situations, officials are strictly prohibiting all outdoor burning to protect residents, property, and first responders. Read more below.
The mandatory order follows a week of close monitoring by the Saline County Office of Emergency Management and state partners. According to Judge Brumley, unfavorable and dangerous weather patterns have created an environment that puts local fire and emergency resources in a difficult position to maintain adequate fire safety across the county.
“We must take every precaution to prevent additional fires,” Judge Brumley stated in the official decree. “For the safety of our first responders, residents, and property, no burning is allowed.”
County officials are urging the public to take the strict order seriously and are instructing residents to report any unauthorized burning activities immediately.
The official decree comes just one day after the Saline County Office of Emergency Management issued a separate public notice, urging residents to maintain a heightened sense of awareness regarding fire safety and conditions not conducive to burning.
The countywide burn ban will remain in effect indefinitely. Emergency management officials will continue to monitor the status of the wildfire threat, and the county will provide updates to the public as soon as environmental conditions improve.
