Saline County, Arkansas
2021 – On September 26, 2021, the Saline County Career Technical Campus was reported as the first secondary career center in Arkansas to become a Leadership School member of the National Coalition of Certification Centers. The 140,000-square-foot campus had opened just weeks earlier with approximately 500 students and was designed to give students opportunities for career and technical training. – Read more at this link

Arkansas
1862 – Union forces operating from Helena conducted expeditions on September 26 in an attempt to locate Confederate guerrillas. The operations demonstrated the confusion and danger of Civil War fighting in Arkansas, including an incident in which Union troops accidentally exchanged fire with another Union unit because both sides initially believed the other was composed of guerrillas. – Read more at this link

1774 – John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, was born on September 26 in Leominster, Massachusetts. He became famous for establishing apple nurseries and planting apple trees throughout large areas of the American frontier, particularly in what became Ohio and Indiana. – Read more at this link
1960 – John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon participated in the first nationally televised presidential debate. The Chicago debate became a landmark in the relationship between television and American politics. – Read more at this link
World
1969 – The Beatles released Abbey Road in the United Kingdom. It was the final album the group recorded, although Let It Be was released afterward. The famous cover photograph showing the four Beatles walking across a London street became one of the most recognizable images in popular music. – Read more at this link
1959 – Typhoon Vera struck Japan on September 26, causing catastrophic destruction and thousands of deaths. The storm remains one of the deadliest typhoons in Japanese history. – Read more at this link
