A high-speed pursuit ended in a crash and the arrest of four individuals early Friday morning after a string of attempted vehicle break-ins in a local neighborhood. Read more below.
According to the Benton Police Department, the incident began at approximately 5:00 a.m. on May 15th. Officers were dispatched to the Wellington Pointe subdivision following reports of an breaking or entering attempt. Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspects’ getaway vehicle, identified as a white car.
Officers quickly spotted a matching vehicle on a nearby street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to pull over, leading police on a high-speed pursuit through the area.
The chase came to an end when the suspect vehicle crashed at the roundabout located near North Service Road and the Sevier/South Street overpass.
One suspect was immediately taken into custody at the scene of the crash. Three other occupants fled the wreckage on foot, prompting authorities to establish a perimeter and conduct a house-to-house canvass of the surrounding neighborhood. After a brief search, all three fleeing subjects were located and apprehended.
The adult suspect has been identified as Dominic Gibson, age 20, of North Little Rock.
Gibson faces a long list of charges, including:
- Use of Another’s Property to Facilitate a Crime
- Four counts of Breaking or Entering
- Theft of Property
- Fleeing by Vehicle
- Three counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor
- Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor
Three juveniles, also from North Little Rock, were taken into custody and charged with four counts of Breaking or Entering, Theft of Property, and Fleeing on Foot. Due to their status as minors, their names have not been released.
Police confirmed that property believed to have been stolen during the spree was recovered from the crashed vehicle. Detectives are currently working to catalog the items and return them to their rightful owners.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials noted that additional charges may be filed as more information becomes available.
