A Benton man is suspected of killing his roommate. Deputies from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrested a naked Floyd Smith on September 30, 2025, as he lay on the asphalt, stopping traffic.
The SCSO released a statement that deputies answered an emergency call regarding “reports of a nude male firing a gun.” The call came in at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, in the 1100 block of W. Longhills Road.
Deputies arrived and made contact with Smith, who possessed a firearm. Smith was safely disarmed without incident. While searching the residence, deputies found a deceased male on the front porch of the home.
Detectives processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. Preliminary findings indicate that Smith and the victim were roommates and that this was not a random act of violence, according to the SCSO’s statement. Based on witness interviews, a brief altercation preceded the shooting.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified. However, his identity is being withheld at this time out of respect for the family.
This case remains an active and ongoing investigation. No further details will be released at this time.
