A Story of Love and Murder – Krystle reviews All She Ever Wanted

July 3, 2020 By Sarah Heer Leave a Comment

Book: All She Ever Wanted

Author: Ann Rule
My Rating: 3.5 Southern Gothic Stars

At this point, it’s been established I’m a fan of True Crime. One of my favorite True Crime Authors is Ann Rule. I highly recommend The Stranger Beside Me! But I’m not reviewing that one today. I’m going to tell you about All She Ever Wanted, which is the most convoluted true story of love and murder, with some really unexpected plot twists.

I love Ann Rule’s style of writing. Her works read like non-fiction because she has an artful story telling ability that makes reading these true stories entertaining and gripping. All She Ever Wanted is broken into sections that focus on the key players of the story. So there is some repetition of information in each section, which I found annoying after a bit.

I don’t want to spoil any of the great plot twists so I won’t go into a detailed synopsis but here’s what is safe to tell you: This story centers around Pat and Tom. Star-crossed lovers who were both finding their second (or third) chance at true love. But beneath the surface of this picture perfect romance were some shocking and deadly secrets. This story has more twists and turns than that part of Alcoa Road with four roundabouts! Don’t believe me? What if I told you that double homicide is NOT the most shocking moment in the book? I found myself trying to solve the case, but there was no way I could guess where this story ended up.

I always enjoy Ann Rule’s work, and this was no exception. My only complaint is that I found myself getting discouraged by how long the book was, and in relation to that I was pretty put off by how much information was repeated in each section. I even searched to see if there was a documentary about the story so I could just get all the facts of the case and skip over parts of the book. (I didn’t do that, of course!) But it wasn’t enough to make me put down the book. If you’re a fan of true crime, and you’ve never read Ann Rule before this one is great for the summer!

Krystle Goodman is a crazy cat lady, who loves to drink exorbitant amounts of coffee, and read a shocking amount of books. She lives in Benton with her husband Josh, her son Roman, and their two cats Roxanne and Abby. When she isn’t reading, you’ll find her cooking, painting, or watching true crime shows.  Watch for Krystle’s book reviews every other Friday. Send fanmail to: [email protected]
