The Glen Rose High School History Club is inviting the community to its 3rd annual Field of Flags display and inaugural community Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026.
The public event will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the front lawn of Glen Rose High School, located at 14334 Highway 67 in Malvern. Read more below.
The event, themed “250 Years of Freedom” in recognition of America’s sestercentennial, honors local service members by placing personalized American flags across the school lawn. Each flag represents an individual veteran, submitted by area families and community members at no charge.
“Every year, we cover the front lawn of our little school with American flags,” said Kendra Tallent, a teacher and History Club sponsor at Glen Rose High School. “But ours are a little different—every flag has a veteran’s name.”
Organizers are working to expand the display significantly this year after honoring hundreds of service members during prior events. You may submit a veteran name at this link.
“We don’t charge families to add their veteran, and last year we displayed more than 450 names, some dating all the way back to WWI,” Tallent said. “This year we’re shooting for 750+.”
For this year’s landmark anniversary, the History Club expanded the project to include a formal community ceremony held directly among the flags on the school lawn.
“For America’s 250th birthday, I apparently decided that wasn’t enough,” Tallent said. “At the heart of this thing are a bunch of high school kids learning that history isn’t just something that happened to people in a textbook. These are their people.”
Arkansas Secretary of Education Jacob Oliva is scheduled to attend the ceremony, alongside invited military leaders, veterans organizations, first responders, and local and state officials.
Members of the public are invited to attend the Nov. 11 ceremony. For additional details or to RSVP, contact History Club sponsor Kendra Tallent at Glen Rose High School.
