The Saline County Library has kicked off its annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest for 2026, offering free pumpkins to residents and inviting participants of all ages to submit spooky, fun, or silly creations.
Submissions are open through Oct. 7 at all library branches. Read more below.
Beginning Oct. 1, community members can pick up a free pumpkin at any Saline County Library branch, including the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton, the Mabel Boswell Memorial Library in Bryant, and the East End Branch Library, while supplies last. Participants are also welcome to use their own pumpkins.
To enter the contest, participants must submit their decorated pumpkins at a local branch between Oct. 1 and Oct. 7.
Contest rules specify that pumpkins may be painted or decorated in any creative style, but carving is strictly prohibited.
All submitted entries will be placed on public display at library branches from Oct. 8 through Oct. 24.
During the display period, library visitors can view the entries and cast votes for their favorite designs.
Contest winners will be officially announced on Monday, Oct. 26.
All contest entries must be picked up from the library by Saturday, Oct. 31. For additional information or details on library programming, visit salinecountylibrary.libcal.com.
