Four Books to Read During Christmas Break

Four Books to Read During Christmas Break

1 – Suffering the Scot series by Nichole Van

Would y’all even believe I made this list if it didn’t have at least one Nichole Van recommendation? This series is utterly adorable. It’s got all the feels, even a little mystery, I love every character (especially you, Ewan.), and the next book is published in the spring! Now’s the perfect time to catch up. I’ve reviewed all three books so far if you need more convincing. But the quick recap is: regency romance set primarily in Scotland, amazing female leads, Jane Austen vibes.

2 – Moose Springs, Alaska series by Sarah Morgenthaler

Ok, I know. I gave semi-harsh reviews to books one and two. But really, book three made it worth it to me. So, start with The Tourist Attraction – it’s a Hallmark Movie in book form, totally adorable and cheesy. Move on to Mistletoe and Mr. Right, it won’t be your favorite, but it will be ok. It’s funny, it’s angsty, there are cute pets involved. Then sink into Enjoy the View and just bask in the lumberjack glory of Easton falling in love with a Hollywood starlet on the side of a mountain with impending doom constantly looming. IT’S SO GOOD.

3 – Beach Read by Emily Henry

When Elsa sings “The cold never bothered me anyway.” I do not relate to that. I am bothered. Why not curl up next to the fire and dream about summer? Beach Read is such a good book. January and Gus are the cutest. Their banter is to die for, very reminiscent of When Harry Met Sally for me. It’s not JUST a romcom though, this book gets a bit deep. I wasn’t totally prepared for these characters to have real flaws and have to do hard work. It was kind of refreshing. It’s a quick read that will leave you smiling.

4 – Chase Darkness With Me by Billy Jensen

You might think it’s weird to recommend a true crime book as a cozy book, but if you’re a true crime fan you’ll understand. Billy Jensen is an investigative journalist and helped finish the book “I’ll Be Gone In the Dark” about the infamous Golden State Killer, which turned into a hit HBO docuseries. His book Chase Darkness With Me is an interesting look at how Billy has used modern day tools to solve cold cases. It also includes a closer look at the hunt for the Golden State Killer and other criminals. It’s not your typical true crime novel, and I highly recommend it.

Krystle Goodman is a crazy cat lady, who loves to drink exorbitant amounts of coffee, and read a shocking amount of books. She lives in Benton with her husband Josh, her son Roman, and their two cats Roxanne and Abby. When she isn’t reading, you’ll find her cooking, painting, or watching true crime shows.  Watch for Krystle’s book reviews every other Friday. Send fanmail to: [email protected]
