Municipal candidates are finished filing to run for office, and the August 5th deadline has passed. Several offices drew challengers, particularly in the City of Benton. However there are 41 candidates who managed to file unopposed, and they have all but won the election already.
Correction 08/07/26: There was a candidate mistakenly listed for Alexander City Council Ward 3, Position 2, but it’s a Shannon Hills candidate. They are edited and highlighted below.

In summary, while there are 41 unopposed candidates, every municipality drew challengers in one or more races, except one.
Alexander offices drew challengers in two City Council races and the Mayor race. Two candidates are looking to replace Juanita Wilson in Ward 4, Position 2. She was recently arrested for allegedly committing forgery on the job. Lastly, former Mayor Paul Mitchell hopes to replace his replacement, the current Mayor, Crystal Herrmann.
In Bauxite, all City Council positions are unopposed, but former Bauxite Police Chief and 2019 lottery winner Jamie Barlow, III will challenger one-term Mayor Eddie Jones who co-owns Rock Island General Store.
In Benton, Council members Frank Baptist, Chad Slaughter, Steve Lee and Mayor Tom Farmer each have two challengers. Council member Ann Spencer-Cole has one challenger.
Marketer Greg White and mortgage agent Preston Madison seek Baptist’s Ward 1, Position 1 seat. Master Plumber Quinn Marshall seeks Spencer-Cole’s seat in Ward 2, Position 1.
Jana Hogue, Wealth Strategist Jana Hogue, along with Systems Administrator Bret Stracener each look to capture the Ward 3, Position 1 seat. Slaughter only recently captured it himself, filling the remaining term left by the sudden passing of Bill Donnor.
Economic development leader Lamont Cornwell, along with Kerry Tebbe, will run for Ward 5, Position 1 against Lee. Veteran Don White and roofer Jacob Wear both seek the office of Mayor, against two-term Tom Farmer, the former coach and transportation director.
Bryant provided a couple of challengers. Amy Edwards, who currently serves on the Bryant Planning Commission filed for Council member Jack Moseley’s seat in Ward 4, Position 1. Mayor Chris Treat is challenged by Council member and laser maker Walter Burgess, co-owner of Power Technology Inc.
Haskell Mayor Clyde Crookham is challenged by Ray Garner, co-owner of Grounds and Grace Coffee, as well as Dallas Wright, a current Council member and Saline County employee.
In Shannon Hills, Lela Chism challenges Council member Mendy Barnes, and Shawn Andersyn challenges Council member Mary Guinn. In Traskwood, everyone is unopposed.
