The historic Gann Museum has officially opened its doors to a vibrant new exhibition that celebrates the raw talent thriving right in our own backyard.
The exhibit, aptly titled “Salty Art,” launched on June 4 and is set to run through August 21. Located at 218 S. Market Street, the showcase is free to the public and shines a dedicated spotlight on local Saline County artists, spanning a diverse range of mediums from painters and illustrators to master potters.
For the artists, the exhibit is an opportunity to share a piece of their personal journeys. Dianne Roberts, owner of the local Dianne Roberts Art Studio and Gallery, chose to step outside her usual comfort zone for this show.
“I picked two pictures people wouldn’t usually see from me,” Roberts shared. “A pen and ink of the Ozarks, and a watercolor and colored pencil of Malvern. I just can’t get away from history!”
That sense of vulnerability is a common thread among the creators involved. Vanessa Scott, another heavily featured artist in the exhibition, emphasized the profound relationship between the community and its local creators.
“I truly have never known a life without art,” Scott said, noting that putting one’s work on a gallery wall requires a unique kind of courage. “It takes a considerable amount of bravery to open yourself up to potential criticism, despite your experience or level of expertise as an artist.
“By supporting local artists as much as possible, the public can express their appreciation for the arts in general and provide that invaluable sense of validation that all of us artists thrive on.”
Visitors to the museum can expect to see a rich tapestry of styles and perspectives.

For residents looking to dive deeper into community resources this summer, the Saline County Library continues to serve as a vital hub, as it has since 1931.
With branches across Benton, Bryant, and East End, the library offers more than just a place to read. Alongside high-speed wireless access and desktop computers, residents can check out an eccentric array of non-traditional items—including video games, cake pans, and small tools.
To pair your art walk with more local events or community outreach programs, you can view the library’s full calendar at www.salinecountylibrary.org or reach out at (501) 778-4766.
