The Saline Crossing Chapter, NSDAR, will host a “Help Your Neighbor” food drive on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of N. Market and Sevier St. on the grounds of First United Methodist Church in Benton. Organizers say the event is designed to be convenient, allowing donors to remain in their vehicles while volunteers collect contributions.

Residents are encouraged to donate in-date, non-perishable food items or grocery gift cards. The collected items will be distributed to individuals and families in the area who are experiencing food insecurity, particularly as summer approaches and children lose access to school-based meal programs.

Organizers noted that rising costs continue to impact seniors, families and others in the community, increasing the need for local support. The effort is part of the chapter’s activities recognizing America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, with DAR chapters nationwide focusing on service and community impact projects.

The Saline Crossing Chapter, formed in Benton in 2024, is part of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism through community service initiatives.

Community members are encouraged to drop off donations and help spread the word to support neighbors in need.
