Paul Johnston, of Arkansas Prosthetics and Pedorthics, saw a need in Saline County after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 displaced many families, and many were ending up in our own community. Those in need who were coming to Saline County were not able to locate sources for warm winter clothing. With the help of Linda Jennings and CJCOHN, organizers and volunteers received coat donations, had them cleaned and distributed the following day.
The Junior Auxiliary of Saline County, as part of their community outreach, jumped in to help collect the coats from area churches, schools and community organizations, and saw to it that the coats were clean and ready to find new homes.
Year after year, the event has grown, and many families have been able to receive a coat or other donated items to help during the winter months. 2021 is recognized as the 17th Year for this event where the public may receive coat donations. There is no income requirement for picking up coats, and you may receive one coat for each family member.
