The International House of Pancakes (IHOP) restaurant in Benton is set to close its doors permanently later this spring, according to staff at the location.
Employees stated the restaurant, at 17821 Interstate 30 in Benton, Arkansas, expects to have its final day of operation on May 24, 2026. A “for sale” sign has been placed on the property, indicating the building is being sold.
The Benton location has been a longtime breakfast spot for residents, but its closure comes amid a broader trend of IHOP shutting down select underperforming locations across the country.
IHOP has closed a number of restaurants in recent years, including nearly 100 locations between 2023 and 2025. The company has continued that trend into 2026, focusing on locations that are no longer meeting performance expectations.
Earlier this year, a longtime IHOP in Searcy — open for about 20 years — closed on March 22.
Other closures have been reported in states including New Hampshire and Utah, though the company continues to operate hundreds of locations nationwide.
While IHOP has not released specific details about the Benton location, closures are often tied to a range of factors, including:
- Lease expirations
- High costs for required building upgrades
- Declining customer traffic
- Financial challenges faced by franchise owners
In some cases, closures are also linked to franchisee bankruptcy filings, though those situations typically affect individual locations rather than the entire chain.
IHOP has also been restructuring in certain markets by combining restaurants with Applebee’s into shared “dual-brand” locations as a way to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
With the Benton location set to close, customers still have time to visit before the May 24 shutdown date.
It is not yet clear what business may take over the property once it is sold.
Despite the closures, IHOP remains in operation nationwide and continues efforts to attract customers through updated menus and value-focused offerings.
