Arkansas State Police issued a statement Friday morning confirming an incident with a scuffle between an officer and an individual that ended in the officer fatally shooting the man.
The incident occurred on Thursday, November 16th, 2023, before 2:00 p.m. The following is the account from State Police except for edits for accuracy:
A Saline County man died as a result of injuries sustained in an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday, November 16, 2023, in Saline County. The Saline County Sheriff’s Office asked ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the incident.
Saline County deputies were called to a home on Wasson Lane off Heinke Road in Mabelvale. The caller reported that Jeremy Dale Adams, age 39, was intoxicated and making terroristic threats. A physical altercation occurred after Adams was combative and did not comply with orders from the deputies.
Deputies attempted to gain control of Adams by deploying a taser. During the encounter, a deputy fired his service weapon at Adams, shooting him more than once. Adams was flown to UAMS in Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.
The deceased was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory. The manner and cause of death will be determined there. The investigation is ongoing.
An investigative case file will be presented to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by officers was consistent with Arkansas law.
As usual, there are more details in the incident than we are able to release. Watch MySaline for any updates.
