SHANNON HILLS, Ark. — A 15-year-old girl was airlifted to a hospital after a teenager with a learner’s permit accidentally drove a vehicle into a Shannon Hills home, pinning her against a wall while she was watching television. The driver and his father were uninjured in the crash. Read more below.

According to Shannon Hills Police Chief Allen Spears, the young driver was out practicing driving with his father when the incident occurred. While stopped at a stop sign, the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake pedal and accelerated directly into the residence, according to Chief Spears.

The vehicle crashed into the house and trapped the teenage girl inside. Emergency responders from the Shannon Hills Police Department initially arrived at the scene to evaluate the situation before calling in assistance from the Little Rock Fire Department, Alexander Fire Department, and Pafford Medical Services.

“We are very grateful for the help from the other agencies that came out,” said Spears.

The 15-year-old victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, appearing to have a broken collarbone and a sprained ankle. She was transported to the hospital via helicopter for treatment. Neither the young driver nor his father was injured in the incident as far as responders know.

Authorities are not treating this as a criminal defense and no charges are expected to be filed.
