Three big intersections will eventually get turn lanes as part of a project to expand Springhill Road in Bryant, Arkansas. In a survey, Bryant residents told the City they wanted improvements on Springhill road, and as a result, the City recently secured funding for the design process. Read more below.
The City of Bryant has been awarded a $1.9 million grant from Metroplan to complete the full engineering design for the long-awaited expansion of Springhill Road, marking a major milestone in one of the city’s highest transportation priorities.
The grant funding will allow the City, in partnership with the City of Benton and Saline County, to begin the design phase of the project in 2027, positioning the corridor to compete for future construction funding.
The announcement comes as Bryant residents continue to identify Springhill Road as one of the community’s most pressing infrastructure needs.
During the Bryant Leap Forward community survey, traffic and transportation emerged as a top concern among residents. More than one-third of all open-ended comments specifically mentioned Springhill Road, traffic congestion, or the need for improvements to the corridor, making it one of the most frequently discussed topics in the public engagement process.
“This project has been a long-standing priority for the City,” said Mayor Chris Treat. “Securing this design grant is a significant first step. While there is still work ahead, this funding moves us much closer to delivering the improvements our residents have consistently told us they want to see.”
The City’s long-term plan for the Springhill Road corridor includes three phases:
-
Phase 1: Intersection improvements for better traffic flow and safety.
-
Phase 2: Widening Springhill Road to three lanes along the corridor.
-
Phase 3: Adding an additional travel lane as future growth and traffic demands require.
The City will continue pursuing state and federal grant opportunities with the goal of beginning phased construction in 2028.
“As growth continues north of town, it’s imperative that we move this project forward as quickly as possible,” Treat said. “Every step we take today brings us closer to reducing congestion, improving safety, and preparing our infrastructure for Bryant’s future.
The Springhill Road expansion is one of several transportation initiatives being evaluated through Bryant Leap Forward, the City’s long-range vision for infrastructure, mobility, and responsible growth. Community input gathered throughout the planning process continues to guide project priorities and future investment decisions.
