There are big changes underway on Interstate 30 that will make it easier to access Benton’s shopping, dining and lodging on the north side, but some locals are concerned about construction obstacles during emergencies. Read more and see video below.
Here’s the video MySaline did with the City of Benton’s Matt Thibault to inform the public of plans to move Exit 117 back by about a mile, switch an on-ramp to an off-ramp, and make the frontage road three lanes. (Aerial footage by Albright Drone)
The City of Benton, Saline Health System (SHS) and the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), issued a joint statement to reassure motorists. They say the construction at I-30’s Exit 117 “will not affect access to emergency services or traffic to and from the hospital.”
This video shows key points on the map, so you can get a better idea of where the on- and off-ramps will be, along with the expanded frontage road:
The project includes realigning the on- and off-ramps and enhancing nearby roads. In regard to the public’s concerns, local officials say clear pathways to Saline Memorial Hospital are always going to be maintained.
“We appreciate the city’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted access to Saline Memorial Hospital,” said Saline Health System CEO Char Boulch. “Ensuring timely emergency care for our patients, staff, and visitors is essential.”
ARDOT Director Jared Wiley said the project “will improve safety and mobility through improved access to and from this heavily traveled stretch of the Interstate 30 Corridor.
Wiley said construction will be limited to nighttime and lesser-traveled hours of the day. Ramp access will be maintained throughout the project. New ramps will be installed before the old ones are removed.
This project is expected to continue into mid-2026. The City stated that it’s part of a broader effort to support Benton’s growing population and development needs, including the future Buc-ee’s location and surrounding commercial expansion.
