On July 12th, 2025, deputies from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to a structure fire at the home of Denise Rhodes on Lauren Lane, according to Chief Deputy Dustin Robertson. After the fire was extinguished, Ms. Rhodes could not be located.
In the days that followed, both she and her neighbor, Robyn DeSort, were reported missing by family and friends. During the course of the investigation, SCSO detectives say they discovered Ms. DeSort’s white GMC Yukon abandoned on an ATV trail near Lauren Lane.

Chief Deputy Robertson said, “Through interviews, phone records, and financial transactions, the we were able to place Michael Robert Weser [as having been] in contact with both women prior to their disappearance. Additional evidence tied him to the abandoned vehicle and other items recovered near his residence.”
On September 7th, 2025, investigators located human remains on property near Weser’s home, according to the SCSO, and that DNA analysis has since confirmed the remains to be those of Robyn and Denise.
“Following that confirmation, we obtained a warrant, and on September 10th, 2025, Weser was taken into custody without incident,” said Robertson.
Weser faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of Capital Murder, Abuse of a Corpse, and Arson, among others.
