The City of Bryant has been awarded an $824,800 grant to build a new multi-use trail that will connect key parts of the city, including two schools. The city will contribute an additional $206,200 to complete the project.
The funding comes from Metroplan’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program and will support Phase 1 of the Southwest Trail Connector. This phase will create a new trail linking the Bryant Parkway Trail to Highway 183 (Reynolds Road).
The trail will run along Hill Farm Road, connecting Hill Farm Elementary School and Bryant Junior High School. City officials say improving safety is a major goal.
“This project is designed with safety and connectivity at its core,” said Grants Manager Rebecca Kidder. “By providing a dedicated multi-use path, the City aims to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, particularly for students traveling between nearby schools.”
In addition to safety, the project is intended to improve access across the city and connect more destinations for residents. Officials say it is an important step toward completing a larger trail network in Bryant.
The project builds on earlier planning work funded by a 2022 Metroplan grant, which provided $170,000 for design. During that process, Bryant Public Schools worked with the city to ensure the trail would best serve students and nearby campuses.
The Southwest Trail Connector is part of a long-term plan to create a fully connected trail system across Bryant. The existing Bryant Parkway Trail already links several destinations and is expected to expand further in the future.
