UPDATE: Family grieves teen girl in fatal dog attack; Fund set up by friends

June 12, 2025 by Shelli Poole

UPDATE JUN 12, 2025 3PM

MySaline reported the unfortunate news on Wednesday that a teen girl lost her life to an attack by multiple dogs. The 15-year-old girl was Makayla Fortner, a student at Bryant Public Schools. While the family is grieving, those close to them are helping by setting up a fund. The following is the post on the fundraiser site:

On behalf of my dear friend Stephanie Wilkie, I am heartbroken to share the devastating news that her beloved 15-year-old daughter, Makayla Fortner, tragically passed away following a horrific dog attack. This unimaginable loss has left her family in deep shock, grief, and emotional pain.

Makayla is a beautiful, bright girl with the kindest soul who had so much life ahead of her. Her smile could light up a room, and her laughter was the kind that made others feel instantly at ease. She is deeply loved by her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

No parent is ever prepared to lose a child, and certainly not under such tragic circumstances. We are asking for your support to help Stephanie and her family cover funeral expenses, grief counseling, and to allow them the time and space to grieve without the burden of immediate financial stress.

If you are able to give, no matter how small, please know it is deeply appreciated. And whether you are able to donate or not, please consider sharing this campaign and keeping the family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for your love, support, and compassion during this heartbreaking time.

With love,

Her friends and family!

UPDATE JUN 11, 2025 4PM

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at approximately 12:15 p.m., the Saline County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that a female had been attacked by dogs. Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded immediately to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a 15-year-old female had been fatally attacked by multiple dogs located within a secured, fenced area on private property. Approximately 30 dogs were being housed at the location.

The victim had been previously assisting with the care of the animals and was helping to find them permanent homes. The reason for the sudden and tragic attack is currently unknown.

Due to the nature of the incident and out of respect for the family, the name of the victim will not be released at this time.

The animals at the location that have been associated with the attack have been seized by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of Benton animal control. The investigation remains ongoing.

PREVIOUSLY JUN 11, 2025 1:30PM

Around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, emergency communications stated that a female had been attacked by a pack of dogs in Alexander off Vimy Ridge Road.

Northeast Saline County Fire Department was called to the scene and the coroner was requested. The Saline County Sheriff’s Office confirms that it was a 15-year-old female who was fatally attacked on White Oak Drive by more than 10 dogs.

The Criminal Investigations Division has taken over the scene, according to the SCSO, and the dogs were seized and contained so there is no threat to the public. We will report more as we get information.
