Bryant partners with regional tree project to offer free native trees to locals
The City of Bryant has partnered with the Central Arkansas Tree Planting Project to provide free native trees to local residents, businesses, and community organizations.
The initiative is part of a regional effort aiming to plant 166,000 trees across six Central Arkansas counties by 2029. Read more below.
The regional project spans Saline, Pulaski, Faulkner, Grant, Lonoke, and Perry counties. Participants can choose from more than two dozen native species, including redbud, flowering dogwood, and bald cypress. Environmental benefits of the plantings include home and street shading, reduced stormwater runoff, and enhanced local wildlife habitat.
Trees are available to homeowners, schools, churches, farms, non-profit organizations, businesses, and public agencies in all six participating counties. Recipients are required to plant their trees promptly upon receipt, log the planting locations, and maintain ongoing care for the trees.
The upcoming round of distribution will feature free bare-root seedlings prepared for spring planting. Residents and organizations can submit tree requests and find project updates online at bit.ly/BryantARTrees. For questions regarding large orders, community members can contact the project management team via email at [email protected].
Funding for the initiative is provided by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant awarded to Metroplan. The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s Cooperative Extension Service manages distribution in partnership with the Arkansas Watershed Steward Program and local municipal governments, including the City of Bryant.
