Saline County shooting leaves one man dead; 72-year-old man charged with capital murder

A 72-year-old man is in custody, facing capital murder and additional charges following a fatal shooting Friday afternoon in Saline County.
Deputies with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 700 block of Martin Road at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2026, where they discovered a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Read more below.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers located the victim, identified as Troy Hendrix, age 30. Hendrix was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Authorities identified the suspect as Dickie Johnson, 72, who had fled the area prior to the arrival of responding deputies. Following a search of the surrounding area, officers located Johnson a short distance away and took him into custody without further incident.
Johnson was transported to the Saline County Detention Facility, where he was booked on multiple charges, including Y-class felony Capital Murder, B-class felony Terroristic Act, A-class misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), and A-class misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
Sheriff’s office officials stated that the investigation remains ongoing and no additional details regarding a potential motive or events leading up to the shooting are available for release at this time.
