Benton First United Methodist Church is sponsoring its annual Community Thanksgiving Meal on Thanksgiving Day, November 23rd, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The entire community is invited to attend, at no cost. This year, we are able to provide the meal three ways:
- dine in,
- drive-through,
- or delivery.
“The meal is open to anyone who does not have a place to go on Thanksgiving,” said Beverly Brister, Chairman of the event. “We don’t want anyone to be alone or hungry on Thanksgiving Day, and we’re opening our doors to anyone in the community who would like to attend.”
“This is the 11th year for the event,” Brister related. “The meal is one of the highlights of our year, with well over 700 meals being served each Thanksgiving. We hope to be able to reach out to the community and provide a meal to anyone who needs it.”
“This year’s meal consists of smoked turkey breasts, homemade dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, rolls, and our homemade cranberry sauce. We’ll also have a fabulous variety of homemade desserts, including cakes, pies, and cookies.”
To organize such an event takes well over 100 volunteers from several area churches and members of the community, many of whom volunteer every year. The sponsor is the host church’s Missions Committee, which is headed by Wesley Jones.
The group will provide carry-out or delivery meals for those who are unable to attend. Those needing a meal delivered may call in advance 501-778-3601 or 501-732-6402.
First United Methodist Church is located at 200 S. Market Street. The meal will be served in the Christian Life Center beginning at 11 a.m. Attendees may enter through the Sevier Street entrance.
