A Benton committee will review annexation proposals near Dobbs Creek, a Highway 5 rezoning request, a barber college permit on Military Road, a possible building improvement on Market Street, and a Benton Utilities pump purchase during its May 12th meeting. Read more below.
The Benton Commissions Committee is set to review several planning and utility-related items during its May 2026 meeting, including proposed annexations near Dobbs Creek, a rezoning request on Highway 5 North, and a conditional use permit for a barber college on Military Road.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. at Benton City Hall Council Chambers as part of the city’s regular committee meeting schedule.
According to the meeting agenda, committee members will receive updates from the Planning and Zoning Commission following its May 5 meeting.
Items up for discussion include:
- A proposed annexation and R2 zoning designation for land along Mountain View Road and Dobbs Creek.
- A second annexation and R2 zoning proposal for land along Salem Road and Dobbs Creek.
- A rezoning request for property at 2501 Highway 5 North from R2 residential zoning to C2 commercial zoning. (New development across from Kroger fuel center)
- A conditional use permit request to allow a barber college in a C2 zone at 1220 Military Road. (In the center between the strip with Subway and the strip with Great Khan)
The committee will also hear information from the Benton Public Utilities Commission regarding a proposed resolution to waive competitive bidding for the purchase of a Flygt 3202 60-horsepower pump and related equipment for Benton Utilities.
In addition, the Historic District Commission is expected to review two certificate of appropriateness requests for Bosley Construction at 110 North Market Street. One request concerns signage, while the other involves façade remodeling.
The Advertising and Promotion Commission has no items listed on the agenda.
The City of Benton’s Planning Commission meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at City Hall.
