In track, Gatlin’s speed shined even on a limited stage. Since Bauxite did not have an official high school track program after junior high, Coach Harrell organized a small team so athletes could still compete. Despite those challenges, Gatlin excelled, becoming a two-time
All-District and All Saline County track selection and a two-time district champion in both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays, winning titles in consecutive years. His performances brought recognition to Bauxite track at a time when few opportunities existed.
In basketball, Gatlin was a letterman who contributed as part of a talented multi-sport class, rounding out his unique four-sport career.
Known for his speed, toughness, leadership, and relentless work ethic, Gatlin embodied the Miner spirit across every sport. His athletic career is a true example of dedication and versatility, earning him a well-deserved place in the Bauxite Hall of Fame.
