A Louisiana woman died, and a driver was injured, following a single-vehicle accident during rainy conditions on Arkansas Highway 9 near Paron on Wednesday afternoon, July 29th. State Police officials reported that the vehicle veered off the wet roadway and struck a tree. Read more below.
The Arkansas State Police identified the deceased passenger as Josephine O. Kaufman, 79, of Monroe, Louisiana. The driver of the vehicle, Jerome C. Kaufman, 80, also of Monroe, sustained injuries in the crash.
According to the preliminary fatal crash summary, Mr. Kaufman was driving a 2005 Lexus RX330 southbound on Highway 9 when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree near the 16-mile marker. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 29, 2026.
Responders transported Jerome Kaufman to Baptist Health for medical treatment. The Saline County Coroner’s Office took custody of Josephine Kaufman’s body, and next of kin have been notified.
Cpl. Trevor M. Stevenson investigated the accident and noted that the weather was rainy and the road conditions were wet at the time of the collision.
