Bryant awarded $157,000 state grant to resurface deteriorated Mills Park Trail
The City of Bryant has been awarded a $157,000 state grant through the Arkansas Department of Transportation to completely resurface the 1.4-mile trail at Mills Park.
City officials announced Friday that the funds will address deteriorating pavement, root damage, and safety hazards along the heavily used recreational trail. Read more below.
Funding for the improvement project was secured through the state’s Recreational Trails Program. Over time, heavy daily use, tree root growth, and uneven surfaces have caused pavement deterioration that created safety concerns for pedestrians and runners.
Bryant Mayor Chris Treat expressed strong support for the project following the grant announcement.
“I grew up at Mills Park and I still run this trail regularly,” Treat said. “I’m thrilled that we get to resurface it and continue all the great improvements we’ve made to this wonderful park.”
According to municipal officials, the resurfacing project directly addresses community feedback gathered during the development of Bryant’s Comprehensive Growth Plan. Throughout the public planning process, residents specifically identified the need to repair and repave the Mills Park Trail, naming the park as a key local resource to preserve as the city grows.
City representatives stated that project scheduling and details regarding any temporary trail closures will be announced as plans are finalized.
