1863 — Union cavalry operating in northeastern Arkansas continued its movements during the Buckskull expedition. Federal troops had been moving through Lawrence County in search of Confederate guerrillas and encountered resistance on October 10.

1864 — The Fort Smith Expedition continued its return toward Little Rock. Federal troops under Major Thomas Derry experienced repeated skirmishing as they traveled through the Arkansas River Valley, eventually returning to Little Rock on October 13.
