Are you thinking of running for a city or municipal office? You’ll need to get a few signatures on a petition first, but the County Clerk’s office has you covered. Read more below.
First let’s see if you’re even interested in running. There are several city/municipal positions that are open for potential candidates in the November 3, 2026 General Election. We listed them all here.
The following city/municipal offices will appear on the ballot:
Alexander:
- Mayor
- Council Member – Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4 (2 positions per ward)
Bauxite:
- Mayor
- Council Member – Wards 1, 2, and 3 (2 positions per ward)
Benton:
- Mayor
- Council Member – Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (Position 1 only)
- City Attorney
- City Clerk
Bryant:
- Mayor
- Council Member – Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4 (2 positions per ward)
- City Attorney
- City Clerk
Haskell:
- Mayor
- Council Member – Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4 (2 positions per ward)
Shannon Hills:
- Mayor
- Council Member – Wards 1, 2, and 3 (2 positions per ward)
Traskwood:
- Council Member – Wards 1, 2, and 3 (2 positions per ward)
If you are interested in one of those positions, and you’re a registered voter, and you live within the area the position covers, you can pick up a candidate petition at the Saline County Clerk’s Office beginning Thursday, May 7, 2026.
You’ll need to bring a valid photo ID. The address to the Clerk’s office is 215 N. Main St., Suite 9, in the Saline County Annex Building Benton (connected to the Vote Here Building).
Potential candidates in Benton and Bryant are required to collect a minimum of 30 signatures on their petition. For all other municipalities, the minimum is 10 signatures.
Once you obtain the required number of signatures, you’ll return the petition to the Clerk’s office.
Candidate filing for municipal offices will officially begin at Noon on Tuesday, July 29, 2026, and concludes at Noon on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
