A favorite family hangout closed in 2020, but it’s about to come rolling back. The skating rink at 1212 W. South Street in Benton, Arkansas, has been around for decades.
Its name has changed at least a couple of times. It was Bud’s Roller Rink, and later it was Benton Skate Center. The building has also been used for ministry purposes since 2020, but was vacant for about half a second in 2024 before someone jumped on the opportunity to lease the building and open it for skating again. The new business owners have some history with skating, as many of us do. The husband grew up skating at this location when it was Bud’s. The wife (much like myself) grew up in Little Rock and skated at 8 Wheels on Mabelvale Cutoff. They want to bring back their pastime, but also provide a place for the community of all ages to come have fun and make memories.
