Randy Hees is new to Arkansas, having moved here in 2021, but finds the state agrees with him. Since arriving, he has joined the Arkansas Railroad Museum, and now serves on its board as secretary. He is the retired director of the Nevada State Railroad Museum at Boulder City where while managing the museum and its five mile long tourist railroad, he raised 31 million dollars for a new museum campus.
Randy has degrees in history and geography from the University of California at Berkeley and continues to pursue his lifelong interest in historic preservation and history, focusing on railroads and historic house museums. He has been involved in Orange Empire Railroad Museum in Southern California and the Bay Area Electric Railroad museum at Rio Vista. He is a founding member of the Samuel Knight Chapter of the Society for Industrial Archeology; is the past president and curator of the Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources (SPCRR), a museum at Ardenwood farm in Fremont CA; and served as the historian for The Pacific Locomotive Association, owner of Niles Canyon Railway.
Randy has written historic preservation plans for projects for the Hawaiian Railroad Society, Nevada State Railroad Museum (Carson City and Boulder City locations), Cumbres & Toltec Railroad, Alaska State Museum, and the Nevada County (California) Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum.
He and his wife Gael live in Little Rock, above the Big Dam Bridge with their two dogs. They are both members of the Rotary Club of Little Rock Afterhours.
