MySaline is closed today due to the the National Holiday of Juneteenth! It has only been a National Holiday since 2021 – observed on June 19th – so you may be unfamiliar with it. It’s also called Freedom Day.
It’s the day in 1865 when word finally reached enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, that they were free. It was a full 2.5 years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
