A local graduate’s outstanding performance in career and technical education has earned him a prestigious national honor.
Daxton Eddy, a recent graduate of Harmony Grove High School and the Saline County Career Technical Campus (SCCTC), was recently awarded the $1,000 Jon H. Poteat Scholarship from the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).
Eddy was a standout student in the Industrial Technology program at SCCTC. During his time at the regional career campus, he successfully earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Industrial Equipment Maintenance, completed his OSHA 10-Hour General Industry certification, and secured multiple specialized industry certifications from the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3).
According to campus administrators, Eddy has consistently exemplified the seven core attributes championed by the NTHS: skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship, and leadership.
Since its founding in 1984, the National Technical Honor Society has served as the official honor society for Career and Technical Education (CTE). Operating across high schools, regional career centers, technical colleges, and universities, the organization inducts more than 68,000 new members annually.
The organization’s mission centers on advocating for and empowering students to gain the specific academic and technical skills necessary to build rewarding careers and sustain a highly skilled global workforce.
Through strategic partnerships with major industry entities and student leadership organizations, the NTHS has successfully awarded more than $4 million in scholarships to exceptional CTE students across the country. Some of these prominent partner organizations include SkillsUSA, DECA, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), the Future Farmers of America (FFA), and the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER), among many others.
