Officers kept two dogs at bay while treatment could be rendered to the victim. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and later released.
After further investigation, it was determined only one of the two dogs—believed to be a pit bull—attacked the victim. It was also determined that both dogs escaped the yard of a nearby residence due to damaged fencing.
Despite efforts to take the dogs safely into custody, the continued aggressive behavior of the dog that attacked the victim resulted in officers having to end its life.
The second dog remains at large but is not considered a threat to the public. Benton Animal Control is actively working to humanely trap the second dog, described as a hound mix.
