The City of Benton will need to close a portion of Shenandoah Road for several months. They will be replacing the bridge on Shenandoah, near the intersection at Salt Creek Road. The project will begin Monday, January 25th and if weather permits, the goal is to finish by the end of May 2021. The City currently has a sign telling motorists to get ready for it to start. There will be a detour around the area later.
You can see the video of the Benton Streets and Drainage Committee meeting below, where this was discussed. Contact a committee member with any concerns.
Among other items discussed were a sidewalk on Smithers Drive, from Military Road until the Saline County Library location.; and a possible roundabout at the intersection of Congo Road and Shenandoah.
Maybe the Smithers’ sidewalk would allow more children to be picked up further from the school, alleviating the congestion.
A Congo / Shenandoah roundabout should keep northbound traffic flowing, slow down southbound traffic, and make it safer for Shenandoah traffic to merge northbound. Don’t know how it will affect the water on the road from the carwash.
Probably won’t help the congestion at the stop light. That’s a state problem.
Why is the street light at I-30 / Congo not on?
I’m assuming you’re asking about the traffic signal on the north side of the Interstate. Let me know if otherwise. I’m not sure if that’s the City’s responsibility or ARDOT.
I think they’re asking about the big overhead light for that intersection. There’s one on each side of the I-30 overpass and they really help when they’re on. One has been out for a long time.
