The City of Benton is inviting citizens to apply for a vacant City Council seat in Ward 3 at Position 1, following the passing of Council Member Bill Donnor. Read more below.
Applications will be accepted until noon on April 3, 2026 to fill the position. The person selected will serve the remainder of the current term, which runs through December 31, 2026.
The position is also scheduled to appear on the ballot in the November 2026 election, where voters will choose a council member to serve a four-year term.
Applicants must live within Ward 3 in Benton to be considered. See the boundary map below.
The city asks applicants to include the following information with their submission:
Name
Address
Civic organizations involved in and length of service
Length of residency in Benton
A statement explaining why they want to serve the citizens of Benton
Availability for scheduled and special-called council meetings
A statement describing the role of a City Council member
Applications may be submitted by email to [email protected] or mailed to P.O. Box 607, Benton, AR 72018.
After the application period closes, the Benton City Council will hold a special meeting on April 21, 2026 to interview candidates. The council plans to swear in the selected applicant during the regular council meeting on April 27, 2026.
The appointment will temporarily fill the Ward 3 seat until voters decide the position in the upcoming municipal election.
