The event is part of the Liberty Tree Project, a nationwide initiative led by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The project seeks to plant commemorative trees in all 50 states to honor the Semiquincentennial of the United States and the important role Liberty Trees played during the American Revolution.

The original Liberty Tree in Boston became a powerful symbol of colonial resistance and a gathering place for patriots advocating for independence. Today, Liberty Trees planted through this project continue that tradition—serving as living reminders of the courage, resilience, and commitment to liberty that helped shape the nation.

Local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, often working alongside partners such as the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and other community organizations, are coordinating Liberty Tree plantings across the country. Many of these ceremonies include the dedication of bronze markers and educational programs highlighting the history and significance of the Liberty Tree.

The Benton ceremony is one of many being held nationwide as communities prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday on July 4, 2026. The initiative is also connected to the DAR’s Pathway of the Patriots project, which includes the planting of 250 trees to honor Revolutionary War patriots.

City officials encourage the public to attend and take part in this meaningful moment of remembrance and celebration.

“This Liberty Tree will stand as a lasting symbol of our nation’s founding principles and a reminder of the generations who fought to secure our freedoms,” Belinda Jones with DAR said. “We invite everyone in the community to join us as we plant a piece of living history in Benton.”

The ceremony will take place on the grounds of Benton City Hall, located at 410 River Street, and all residents, civic organizations, veterans’ groups, and students are welcome to attend. If it rains, the ceremony will move inside to the Benton City Council Chambers.
