Two people were arrested Saturday after a traffic stop for seat belt violations led to a brief vehicle pursuit and the recovery of suspected narcotics, authorities said.

Deputy Johnson of the Bauxite Marshal’s Office initiated a traffic stop on February 7, 2026, on South Alexander Road. The report says he observed the driver and passenger not wearing seat belts, according to law enforcement officials.
Authorities said the driver refused to comply and fled westbound on West Sardis Road at a high rate of speed.
During the pursuit, the passenger allegedly discarded a bag from the vehicle, officials said.
The vehicle later came to an abrupt stop, and both the driver and passenger exited and complied with the deputy’s commands. The discarded bag was recovered, and both individuals were taken into custody without further incident.
They were transported to the Saline County Detention Center.
Both suspects face multiple charges, including:

Fleeing by means of vehicle (Class C felony)

Tampering with physical evidence (Class D felony)

Possession of Schedule VI controlled substance with purpose to deliver (Class C felony)

Possession of Schedule I or II controlled substance, other than methamphetamine, with purpose to deliver (Class A felony)

Possession of Schedule I or II controlled substance, other than methamphetamine, with purpose to deliver (Class B felony)

Possession of Schedule I controlled substance (Class C felony)

Possession of Schedule I controlled substance (Class B felony)

Possession of Schedule VI controlled substance (Class D felony)

Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor)

Authorities did not immediately release the names of the suspects.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
