National debate erupts after Arkansas police chase and TVI ends in crash injuring two innocents

A high-speed Arkansas State Police pursuit that ended in a devastating crash has sparked national debate after being featured on ABC News.

The incident, which reached speeds of up to 130 mph before a trooper executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), left two innocent bystanders seriously injured and ignited fierce online discussions over the safety of the maneuver. Read more below.

The pursuit began around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, when an Arkansas State Police trooper attempted to pull over a Hyundai Sonata for a traffic violation on northbound Interstate 555.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Laloyd L. Hamilton III, refused to stop and accelerated to approximately 130 mph. As the chase neared the 28-mile marker, the trooper performed a TVI, also known as a PIT maneuver.

The intervention caused Hamilton’s vehicle to collide with a third-party vehicle, forcing it to overturn on the east side of the interstate.

Two individuals occupying the third vehicle, a 68-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and were transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis for treatment.

Hamilton was evaluated at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro before being booked into the Poinsett County Detention Center in the early hours of August 6th.

A search of Hamilton’s vehicle yielded illegal marijuana, pills, and an unknown liquid, according to a statement from Arkansas State Police. Hamilton was charged with felony fleeing, second-degree battery, criminal mischief, hazardous driving, driving while intoxicated, and multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Footage of the dramatic crash quickly garnered national attention, appearing in an ABC News report on August 15th. The video’s circulation prompted an outpouring of polarizing commentary across social media platforms, with viewers fiercely debating the ethics and legality of utilizing a TVI maneuver in traffic at speeds of 130 mph.

Viewer discussions reveal a deeply divided public. Many commenters directed their anger at the state trooper, arguing that the maneuver was reckless, endangered the public, and should be strictly prohibited at high speeds when innocent civilians are nearby.

Conversely, other viewers staunchly defended the officer’s actions, placing the sole blame on the fleeing suspect and insisting that law enforcement must take strict measures to hold criminals accountable and prevent them from escaping.
