In recognition of Take Your Legislator to School Month in Arkansas, Bryant Public Schools hosted local legislators at Bryant Pre-K on September 30.
The visit coincided with Worm Day in Bryant Pre-K. This allowed legislators the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning activities alongside students in Laura Curry’s classroom. Read more below.
During the visit, guests met with Bryant Pre-K Director Tisha Long, Superintendent Dr. Karen Walters, and Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Pam Kenney to learn more about early childhood education and the individualized supports provided through Special Education services.
Mrs. Long provided an overview of Bryant Pre-K. The program serves 160 students. Long outlined its funding model, including federal, state, and private-pay contributions that pay a portion of the costs associated with providing high-quality early learning experiences.
Legislators also spoke with district administrators about current educational and funding challenges, as well as opportunities to further strengthen Bryant Public Schools.
Bryant Public Schools thanked Senator Kim Hammer, Representative RJ Hawk, Representative Paul Childress and Representative Keith Brooks, Chair of the House Education Committee. “Today’s visit allowed our legislators to witness firsthand the learning experiences of our youngest students,” said Dr. Walters. “We are grateful for their continued commitment to supporting early childhood education and public education throughout our state.”
