The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management has appointed John Hogue as the state’s next State Fire Marshal, bringing 32 years of experience in fire, explosion and hazardous materials investigations to the position. Hogue will begin transitioning into the role immediately. Read more below.
ADEM Director AJ Gary said Hogue’s investigative experience and leadership in complex fire and explosive investigations make him well suited to lead Arkansas’ fire prevention and investigative efforts.
“John’s depth of experience and proven leadership in complex fire and explosive investigations make him an outstanding choice for State Fire Marshal,” Gary said. “His commitment to public safety, professionalism, and interagency coordination reflects exactly what this role requires to best serve Arkansans.”
Hogue is a certified fire and explosion investigator and a licensed private investigator. During his career, he has worked in a variety of public safety and investigative roles, including fire investigator, law enforcement officer, fire code inspector and plans reviewer, Urban Search and Rescue technician, hazardous materials technician, fire captain and EMT, and bomb squad member.
He has conducted more than 1,500 fire and explosive investigations throughout the United States. He also has completed numerous advanced seminars and continuing education programs focused on fire and explosive investigations.
In addition to his investigative work, Hogue has taught courses for the Arkansas Fire Academy and local EMT associations.
Hogue holds several nationally recognized certifications related to fire investigation, evidence collection and explosives, including:
- Certified Fire Investigator — International Association of Arson Investigators
- Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator — National Association of Fire Investigators
- Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator — National Association of Fire Investigators
- Certified Evidence Collection Technician — International Association of Arson Investigators
- Fire Investigator Technician — International Association of Arson Investigators
- Certified Post Blast Technician — Federal Bureau of Investigation
Hogue will immediately begin transitioning into the State Fire Marshal position. ADEM said the transition is intended to ensure continuity of statewide fire prevention, investigation and public safety operations.
His appointment comes with responsibility for leading Arkansas’ fire prevention and investigative efforts, drawing on more than three decades of experience working with fires, explosions, hazardous materials and other public safety matters.
