The City of Shannon Hills will begin a major road reconstruction project on Carrington Drive starting Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.

The long-awaited project, which requires a significant traffic detour for residents leaving the area, is expected to take seven days to complete, as crews remove and rebuild the roadway. According to Shannon Hills Mayor Mike Kemp, heavy equipment is already staged for the project.
During the construction process, the entrance side of Carrington Drive will remain open to incoming traffic, while the exit side will be entirely closed to allow crews to remove the old surface and pour new concrete.
The lane closure will necessitate a substantial detour for outbound motorists. City Council member Toni Blackwell assisted in mapping the rerouted traffic, and official detour signs are currently being deployed, with the remainder scheduled to be in place by Monday morning.
City officials provided two primary detour routes for residents navigating the closure:
Drivers can turn back to Skyline from Crestside at Stallion Pass, turn right onto Skyline, and proceed down the front entrance to Emerald Mountain.
Alternatively, motorists can continue straight on Crestside to intersect with Skyline, then turn left toward East Azalea to travel down the backside of Emerald Mountain.
Mayor Kemp stated that the active construction work and the necessary concrete curing process will take approximately one week. In his announcement, the mayor thanked residents for their patience during the temporary inconvenience and assured the community that other streets needing attention have been documented and will be addressed in future projects.
