McClendon’s Appliance Store has been in business since 1947. But owner Glen McClendon published a goodbye letter on Friday night February 27, 2026 – nearly 80 years later. Read more below.
The store sold Firestone merchandise when it first opened, and in later years, they added to the lineup, with hardware and furniture, but ultimately, they settled on just appliances. Cecil McClendon, Glen’s grandfather, was the one who started the store.
On a personal note, this writer has bought an oven and a washing machine there and found the service friendly, and the delivery fast and professional. On top of that, the prices were better than the big box stores.

“After nearly 80 years of serving Benton, our store closed today, concluding a major chapter in our family’s history.
Founded in 1947 by my grandfather, Cecil, our family business has had the privilege of serving generations of customers, building lasting relationships, and growing alongside this community. Over the decades, we’ve adapted with the times – from hardware and furniture to televisions and appliances – and we are deeply proud of the role we’ve played in so many homes and lives.
As this chapter comes to a close, I’m grateful for the years we were able to serve this community and for the memories made along the way. I look forward to spending more time with my grandchildren and creating new memories in the years ahead.
I am incredibly grateful to our customers, employees, partners, neighbors, and friends who have supported us through the years. Your trust and loyalty made this more than a business – it was a place where I watched my grandfather, my parents, my wife, and my children work and grow together.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives. It has been a true honor.
-Glen
