Thankfully, the news from the University of Arkansas is that the alleged active shooter situation on Monday near lunch time was either a hoax or a misunderstanding. Read more below.
Fayetteville Police Department issued the following statement a just after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025:
At approximately 12:30 PM this afternoon, the Fayetteville Police Department was called to assist the University of Arkansas Police Department at a report of an active shooter at David W Mullins Library on the University of Arkansas campus.
Multiple agencies responded. Since the original call, multiple calls at multiple locations around the university have come in. As of now, there are no confirmed gunshots, no confirmed injuries, no known suspects, and no arrests have been made.
We are following up on every call and investigating every lead. Safety of all students, faculty, and our community is our top priority.

The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville issued a text at 12:28 p.m. Monday, August 25th to students and staff that states there is an “active shooter” situation. Read more below.
The location of the shooter scene is around the Mullins Library. The text from the University states: “RazALERT Emergency Notification: Avoid the area of Mullins Library due to an active shooter reported. Avoid. Deny. Defend.” The message is also on the @uarkansas Instagram story, as seen below:
If you are under a certain age, those last three words have been part of emergency training in the schools. AVOID areas that are part of the scene. DENY access by barricading or hiding. Prepare to DEFEND yourself.
One student, who spoke to us anonymously stated that he is safe but has friends that are hiding or barricaded as of 1:00 p.m. The text is the only source of information we have at this time. We will update when there is more to report.
